Its such a beautiful picture of what the church should look like, we should be raising people up to be leaders. I am so honored to worship and serve along our team at Grey Stone!

Sunday was a cold and rainy day outside in Durham NC, but God is still worthy of our praise no matter what season of life we are in. This is something I spoke about right after we sung Job’s song Blessed Be Your Name. We can praise God when life is good and even when things are not! Im so glad that Jesus encouraged us in John 16:33 by saying, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Following that we lead Chris Tomlin’s song I WIll Rise for the first time in our service. It was a power song to sing, declaring Christ victory over death, and how through Him we get to experience that same victory! I couldn’t think of a better way to follow a song that talks about when we finally get to be with Christ, than by singing the Revelation Song. I always love the glimpse of heaven you get seeing the body of Christ singing Holy Holy Holy!!

We had a great time of worship this past sunday! We opened up with Awakening from the Passion record titled Awkening. It was a great way to open up and ask God to come and move in our midst. Then we sung Hosanna by Paul Baloche, and at the end of it I took time to explain the meaning of the word Hosanna. Its important as worship leaders that we understand what we are singing, and that we help our congregation understand what we are singing. The word Hosanna is much more than just a beautiful word to sing. In its original context it was a cry for help, it meant save now, or save please! Over time the word brought on a new meaning. It went from being a cry of help to a celebration! Its meaning became Salvation is here, or help has come. So as the body of Christ we sing that in mind of all that Christ has done for us, and how his cross has made a way for us! From Paul Baloche’s Hosanna we flowed right into Hillsong’s Hosanna, and then into Here I Am To Worship!

We had a great time together as the body of Christ worshipping our great God this past Sunday. We started off with Beautiful One and then we flowed right into the simple chorus of I Exalt Thee. We just encouraged people as we were starting the morning to set their minds attention and hearts affection on Christ. We followed that with a time of prayer and a welcome. Following the prayer time, we did We Are by Kari Jobe for the second week in a row, its such a powerful song and a great anthem to proclaim as the church. After that we did Glory To God and The Stand. We are excited about all that God is doing in our midst and we pray that He continues to do great and mighty things at Grey Stone!

This past sunday was a great time of worship at Grey Stone! Pastor Clay brought God’s word in such an amazing way. He preached on what can be a sticky issue as he started his brand new series called One Question. This series is going to be a fun one as He is dealing with hot topic issues. To start it off he dealt with homosexuality. He did a phenomenal job handling the issue with such grace and love, but yet he boldly declared the truth of God’s Word!

This weeks set was a ton of fun, and I’m so thankful for all that God continues to do in our worship services! We started the service off with The Time Has Come by Hillsong, this song is such a great call to worship! We followed it right away with I Will Follow. Then our Youth Pastor Justin Faucette, came out and continued to help lead us in worship as he lead us into a powerful time of prayer. This week he asked everyone to get in groups of three and each person took a turn praying for a different topic. It was incredible to hear all the prayers going up across the auditorium at one time! Out of that we introduced a new song to our people called We Are, its Kari Jobe’s new single. Our people seemed to connect right away with this song, its such a easy song to catch on to, and it declares the powerful truth about how we are to be the light in this dark world! It was a natural flow to go from that song right into the bridge of Mighty To Save. My prayer is that these will be much more than songs that we are singing, but that they would be our hearts desire, and that we would live out the life of worship that we are called to!

If you are looking for a place to call your home church, we would love for you to come visit us at Grey Stone! Check us out at www.gsdurham.com

This past sunday was a great morning at Grey Stone! You could definitely feel the Holy Spirit moving through the whole service. We opened the morning with the fun and upbeat song Happy Day! It was a great way to kick the morning off in high energy, but better than that, everything that song says is what we truly have to celebrate as believers! Its because of His Gospel that we can truly worship Him! After our opening song we went right into baptism! I can’t even begin to explain how much this added to our worship service. Our worship seemed to go to another level, being able to celebrate with a fellow believer who was publicly professing their faith in Christ was an amazing moment! From there we did a set of three songs. The last song before pastor came was Day After Day. We just introduced this song for the first time the week before, so I was anxious to see how it would go over this week. It was fantastic to say the least, there was a moment at the end when I just stepped away from the microphone and it sounded like a million voices coming at us on the stage! It is always such a blessing to engage with God’s people in worship, and I am so thankful to be able to do that at Grey Stone!

This was our second week in a row of having an army on stage, well at least thats what we are calling it! There has been a total of 8 of us on stage leading in worship and it has been amazing. We have two electric guitarist, acoustic, bass, violin, keys, drums, and an additional vocalist. In addition on backing vocals our keys, bass, and electric guitarist are singing as well. These guys and girls are bringing so much to the table, and adding so much to our worship services! Its an honor to be able to serve them and serve along side them! I am so excited to see how God continues to move in and through Grey Stone!

So as many of you know by now, I have just recently gone on staff at Grey Stone Baptist Church in Durham NC. It has been an incredible blessing so far and I am excited to see all that God is going to do in 2012. My goal is to at least once a week write an update sharing our set list and a little bit about our worship service. This sunday was a great way to kick off the new year, being with God’s people and singing His praises! We mostly sung songs that we have been singing for the last few weeks, and we introduced Day After Day by Kristian Stanfill for the first time. It is a great anthem to sing, and a powerful song to sing on New Years Day, reminding us that even though time, seasons, and circumstances might change around us, that our God is faithful and never changing!

I wanted to take a few moments to just highlight some of the great experiences our ministry had this past year. I feel like I could probably write a whole book of all the great moments we had, but I am going to try and just point out a few highlights of the year. I think the first thing I would like to mentioned might sound a little cliche but it really is true, its every time we were able to worship with wonderful people like you all. I don’t ever want to take for granted the blessing it is to be able to travel and lead in worship. We absolutely love meeting new people, and hearing their stories, and how God has moved in and through their lives. A lot of times I walk away feeling so blessed and encouraged by the people we actually were there to serve. The road is such a wonderful experience, wether its getting to lead at Myrtle Beach for Consumed Summer Camp, or leading under a pavilion while its snowing outside in the beautiful mountains of TN. I wouldn’t trade those moments or experiences for anything.

Another great highlight of 2011 was releasing our brand new EP, Departing From Normal. We had a wonderful time on June 4h releasing the EP. It was great to have friends Jonathan Edwards, and Josh Via be a part of a concert to help us celebrate the release of this project. Getting to record these four songs was one of the greatest experiences I have had in my time of being an artist . It was great getting to co write these songs with my Manager Donnie Cox, and then to be able to spend a week in Nashville to record them! I was blessed to have some incredible people be a part of making the project happen! For me though the greatest experience with this project has been being able to carry these songs with us out on the road, and seeing how God has used these songs to connect with others.

Carrying on with the idea of how awesome its been to see God use our EP Departing From Normal brings me to my next highlight. Which is having my first ever single, Letting Go, being played on radio. I can’t explain how humbling, and how incredibly exciting it is to think a song that I wrote over Skype with my manager is being played on a radio station. It has been really neat getting phone calls and emails from people saying they just heard Letting Go on their local radio station. I think my favorite call was when my good friend Mark Smith, who is a youth pastor from Georgia called me freaking out after he heard Letting Go driving down the road in his truck. He said as he was listening to the station the radio DJ said stay tuned up next we have Mandisa, Third Day, and Justin Teseniar. So as to be expected after he told me this I began freaking out as well.

The ultimate highlight for our ministry in 2011 was made possible by you all. We had been requested to finish our EP and make it a full length record! So we started a kickstarter to try and raise the funds to do so. With your all’s help we raised a total of 10,135 dollars! To that we cant say thank you enough! We are so excited to begin the process of finishing this record! Its such a privilege and joy to be able to carry these songs all over and to let people know that wonderful folks like you helped make this record! Thank you all so much for believing in what God has called us to do, and for helping our ministry carry the message that God has given us through song. I cant wait to put the record in your all’s hands, and as always we pray that God will receive all of the honor and glory from it!

I do not share all of these highlights to boast in anyway, for we truly have nothing to boast in other than the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We share these things to share how great our God is. To think that he would take people like us and allow us to even be used by Him in the smallest of ways is an amazing thought. I hope and pray that you all have a happy new year! Continue to seek after God’s heart with all that you have! I promise he wont disappoint! We are so excited about the greater things to come in 2012, and we are excited to share our journey with you! Thanks again to everyone for your love and support, God bless!

Justin

We are down to the last few days of our Kick Starter campaign and we are so thankful for all of you who have given! As of right now we have raised 7,037 dollars out of the 10,000 that we need. The thing is, if we do not hit the 10,000 mark we will not get a penny of the money we have raised so far. We would hate to have made it this close and to fall short by this little amount. We would love for you to please help us spread the word, and we would love for you to continue to pray for our ministry. Every little dollar that someone can give helps us get one step closer to reaching our goal and seeing this project become a reality.

Also don’t forget about all the cool rewards that come along with pledging to this project. For example, getting to spend a day with us in the studio in Nashville TN, or being invited to the listening party with the band! You would get to be among the first few people to hear the new record completed! There are all kinds of different rewards based on the amount you pledge to the project, and its a cool way for us to be able to say thank you for your support!

We hope and pray that you would consider partnering with our ministry and helping us advance the Kingdom of God. We are so excited about all of the great things He has done, and the greater things that are still to come! Thanks so much for your time and support. Our project ends on January the 1st, and I pray that God receives all of the glory and honor in and through it! May you all have a very Merry Christmas!
